As per most Hindu & Western Philosophers, the existence of the universe is non-dualistic in nature. They believe, an ultimate Brahman is the cause of the universe. He created the matter and the souls.
The matter, as per the Big Bang Theory, exploded to form the universe with a bang that caused an eternal sound of 'Om' which can still be heard in extreme silence upon concentration. Trillions of stars came into existence. The matter follows certain set atomic and sub-atomic rules, which science has a big 'proven' theory on.
Then on one planet, called Earth, Brahman created the conditions for the existence of life and sent souls out there, to be born surrounded by material bodies! These material bodies ultimately perish, and the souls re-enter in new material bodies. And maybe, there are other planets where life exists and maybe more called heaven and hell too! Brahman causes the souls to wander around in the birth-death cycle on this Earth until they are spiritually evolved, guided by the Law of Karma(Right actions yield right results, bad karmas yield bad results).
And there's a whole lot of theory contained in 1000s of books which further this information. Some Hindu theories say the matter explodes as in Big Bang and then coalesces back and this cycle continues, so we have multiple instances of universe formation and destruction one after the other!
But the underlying question, often whirled around in my mind, and am sure, in every mind on this earth, it does many times - Who is this Brahman? Who created him? Why does he create the universe?
Well, my thirst was quenched, when I read the definition of the 'Brahman'.
If we are sure He exists, we are sure He has a plan too, which we can simply not perceive or infer because of our limited capacities as Human Beings.

He is the supreme being, the cause of the universe. He is himself unborn, imperceptible, indestructible, indescribable, formless, eternal and all-pervasive.
The keyword 'Imperceptible' gives a good explanation. I believe, we, the souls, in the human form, lack the adequate intellect to understand this mystery. Humans are not made perfect. There's so much that we cannot perceive. We cannot hear the sounds which fall beyond the range of 20Hz and 2000Hz frequency, though we know they exist. We cannot see ultraviolet and infrared radiations which fall beyond the visible electromagnetic spectrum, though we know they are there. Similarly, we can deduce, there has to be a cause, one and only one cause, of the universe. But being in the human form, we cannot perceive Him. Maybe, it is a part of His plan, that human beings are not supposed to know the truth behind the existence, and so He didn't grant them this wisdom. The enlightened souls have known to know this mystery, but they call it 'indescribable', simply cannot be defined by the limited vocabulary and expressions known to us. If we are sure He exists, we are sure He has a plan too, which we can simply not perceive or infer because of our limited capacities as Human Beings.
